I think he's a side character since he knows Coach Gil from a long time ago. And those two empty spots in the main characters might be for Tora and Fred. This is just what i thought tho, it might be wrong

Well at least it counts as an additional story if you were to finish Lars' route, which is convenient if you wanted more content and what happened to them after Lars' ending.

In day 8 of most routes, Lars will move with you and cling to you (if you choose bad choices). Lars in Parker's route acts like a caretaker for you.

Don't know anything about genshin impact but one thing i know about adventure game is you need to grind and lvl up
Try to enjoy the game rather than blindly following the quests, take a few detours when you see chests~
Also try not to focus too much on what characters people say are good or bad, it doesn't really matter early on in the game!
